Lessons Taught/To be Learned:
Chapter 30 is the story of Korihor, an anit-christ. In today's terms, Korihor would be considered an Atheist. Korihor insists that he will believe only if God shows him a sign. But Alma points out that Korihor has already rejected the testimonies of others, the scriptures, the prophets and many other signs. Therefore, the lesson is that when someone has already pre‑decided that no evidence counts, even getting a sign won’t help. This is a warning about closed‑minded skepticism, not honest questioning.
Alma teaches that signs follow faith; they do not precede it. Korihor wants God to operate on his terms. The lesson: God doesn’t negotiate with ultimatums.
Finally is important to see that Alma doesn’t attack Korihor. He listens to him, ask questions, reasons with him, bears his testimony and points to evidence already available . It is an excellent model for how to engage with people who challenge faith — be calm, patient, and grounded.
