1 Nephi Chapter 5
Summary: Lehi's sons return with the brass plates and the family rejoices in their return. Lehi reviews the records and discovers that they records contain the five books of Moses, which gave an account of the creation of the world. They also contain a record of the Jews from the beginning even down to the reign of Zedekiah. They also contain prophecies of the holy prophets and a genealogy of Lehi's family showing he was a descendant of Joseph, who was the son of Jacob. Lehi asserts that the records will go forth unto all "nations, kindreds and tongues" and that they never perish.
Lessons Taught/To be Learned:
The significance of the ancient plates of brass cannot be overstated. With these records, we have been able to see as much, if not more of the ancient history of the Jews, than was recorded in the Old testament.
Key Scriptures (italicized and in quotes):
"22 Wherefore, it was wisdom in the Lord that we should carry them (the brass plates) with us, as we journeyed in the wilderness towards the promise land."
