2 Nephi Chapter 5

Summary:   Now that Lehi has past, the older brothers, Laman and Lamuel begin to be increasing angry with Nephi since he is the younger brother and seems "rule over them". They seek to take his life. The Lord warns Nephi that he must leave with his family and anyone else who will go with him into the wilderness (reminiscent of when Lehi left Jerusalem). Nephi and him family and many others leave with Nephi into the wilderness. This is a significant event in the book and sets up the basis of much of the rest of the history of the people of the Book of Mormon as the Nephi followers (calling themselves Nephites) physically separate themselves from the others (now calling themselves the Lamanites after the elder brother). The Nephites go their way, build a temple, follow the law of Moses and become a more spiritual people. The Lamanites become an almost a nonspiritual people and become cursed by God.
