3 Nephi Chapter 3
Summary: The leader of the robbers, Giddianhi, send a letter to the Nephite Governor, Lachoneus, to surrender all the land and possession and be spared. Lachoneus, astonished by the boldness of such a request, make two stragetic moves. He gathers all the people and centralizes all their food and possessions, and make barren all the land around them. He then fortifies the area where they are and places guards around the area. He appoints Gidgiddpni to lead the army. Gidgiddoni instead of attaching, lays in wait until the robbers come onto the people. The Nephites, believer Lamanites, and all other who are believers fortify themselves against the robbers and lay in wait.
