Alma Chapter 48
Summary:
Amalickiah, who is now king of the Lamanites, begins to stir up the people to get them to go to war against the Nephites and thus get his revenge against the people who pushed him out to begin with. He seeks to consolidate both the Lamanites and Nephites and subject the Nephites to bondage. Moroni prepares the Nephites to defend their cause and the cause of all Christians.
Lessons Taught/To be Learned:
The contrast of leadership styles between Amalickiah and Moroni is significant. One gained power by fraud and deceit while the other was powerful because appointed by the people and took up the people's cause. Amalickiah incited his people toward violence and used hatred. Moroni rallied his followers towards peace and understanding. Amalickiah sought to destroy liberty and freedom, Moroni defended it. Amalickiah did not care about anyone else and use deceit and betrayal against his own people, while Moroni loved his people and worked to keep them safe. Amalickiah was division by greed, power and his own personal passions; Moroni was driven by righteous and principles that for the benefit of all.
